Our client Applied DNA Sciences Inc. (OTCBB: APDN; Twitter: $APDN) came out with a very interesting story on their Corporate Blog this week. Applied DNA sells patented DNA security solutions to protect products, brands and intellectual property from counterfeiting and diversion. The article is a case study from Sweden on their corporate Blog, and it tells a wonderful story with real world video of how their technology worked in a real world application with some "CSI" style drama attached.

Swedish police are taking sweeping steps to protect their country against cash robberies. These steps include support for Applied DNA Sciences' new SmartDNA cash-marking system, as announced last week. As they do, an event already eighteen months past is still on their minds: the great helicopter robbery at Västberga.
SmartDNA: Linking cash to criminals
Interviewed by Stockholm's TV4 about SmartDNA (see video in this post), a top Swedish police official, Anders Buren, cited the investigation of that crime as an operation where SmartDNA could have been crucial:
“We recovered several notes [stolen bills-ed], but had nothing to link them to the robbery.”
Now, in any crime scene protected by SmartDNA, they do.
Outside of Sweden, Buren’s reference to the Västberga crime has nothing of the punch that it carries in that country, where it is simply called “the helicopter robbery.” In Sweden, no further explanation is needed. And anything that would have helped solve that crime, is automatically important.
While around the globe, dramas like Millenium History, Wallander, and other Swedish-based mysteries have become extremely popular in recent years, the Västberga robbery deserves equal attention. It is equal in suspense and intrigue, with a difference: it was real."
